Arlington filled in between two cities rather than growing out from a square, so its neighborhoods were built in waves and the ground has been worked over more than once. Most of the dirt moving here now comes from replacing what earlier decades put in: pools, patios, drives, and yards that were graded for a house that has since been added onto.
This is the eastern edge of Tarrant County, which puts it back on Blackland clay rather than the sandier ground further west. Village Creek runs through the middle of it and the lower parts of those watersheds stay soft.
