Burleson has been growing south out of Fort Worth for years, and new neighborhoods are still being cut into rolling ground on the edges of town. Sloping sites mean more cut and fill than a flat lot would need, and that produces material that has to go somewhere.
This is transitional ground, near where the prairie clay gives way to the sandier Cross Timbers soil that runs west of here, so what comes out of a site varies more than it does out east. Village Creek drains the area. Because the terrain rolls, a lot of the local demand is for building pads up and holding slopes rather than simply filling flat low spots.
