Mineola is a Wood County railroad town at the crossing of US-80 and US-69, with an old brick downtown and farmland and timber all around. Earthwork is mostly rural: house pads, driveways, stock ponds and pasture clearing on acreage, with some commercial lots along the highways plus upkeep work in older neighborhoods.
Sandy soils cover the uplands and drain readily, while the Sabine River bottom south of town is clay and silt that holds water for weeks after a flood. Lake Holbrook is west of town, and the Lake Fork country is a short drive northwest. Clean sand here often goes to pads; bottomland clay suits pond dams.
October closes the dry hauling window before the winter rains return. House pads and driveways on new acreage around Lindale and Mineola are pushed to finish while the ground is firm.
